How OICCU Works
Oxford University is a collegiate university - that is, it is split up into colleges. Each college has its own Christian Union that is a part of OICCU.
Every week on a Wednesday, OICCU college groups meet - on odd weeks of term, they meet in their own colleges, while on even weeks all of OICCU meet together in one place to worship, encourage each other and learn from God's Word.
The OICCU Committee are selected each Hilary term. They run OICCU, from the central events to prayer meetings and outreach events to college group Bible studies.
College reps are the 'leaders' of college CU groups, and are chosen by college CUs every Hilary term. The college reps organise meetings in college - not just the main Wednesday evening meetings, but they may organise prayer meetings, small prayer groups, and evangelistic events (with the help of the rest of the college group, of course!)
A Typical College Group Meeting
College reps are free to organise their Wednesday evenings as they choose. Typically, however, the meeting will include:
- An informal time of catching up with, and getting to know, one another
- Prayer
- A Bible study
- Maybe some worship
- Notices and food!
A Typical Central Meeting
At central meetings, your college will be sat with another college group so you can get to know the members of another CU. Central meetings usually include:
- A time of worship led by the band
- Notices from the Committee
- A time of prayer
- Bible teaching from a visiting speaker
Central meetings are usually 'sandwiched' with prayer meetings (7-7.45pm and 10-10.30pm) - please come along for some of this time if you can!
