International Outreach
One of OICCU's aims is to promote involvement in God's work worldwide. This work has two main branches to it.
- Firstly we aim to encourage OICCU members to remember the world, in their thoughts, prayers and actions, and to consider where in the world God is calling them to, whether here in the UK or abroad. For these purposes we have World prayer groups, based regionally, which meet one a-day every day during term time, and we also run from Oxford to the world. with a talk from an overseas christian worker for our members to go along and hear first hand what working abroad is like.
- Secondly we reach out to international students in Oxford. We run a yearly event called International Welcome, during which we meet internationals as they arrive at the bus station with the aim of loving, helping, and forming real friendships with the students. We are hoping to combat the shocking statistic that 80% of International students don't ever have a genuine British friend during their time in England. To promote friendship between OICCU members and International students, we also run international Café 360° every friday during term time (0th-8th week) which is a chilled out café format with different theme/activity each week. See www.cafe-360.co.uk for more details.
