Lincoln College's Christian Union is a friendly group of Christians who meet together to study the Bible, pray and encourage each other so that we can share our faith in Christ with our friends in college more effectively.
Steven, the Lincoln rep, is a physicist who reads Tolstoy and Tolkien and plays the piano badly in his spare time. Barney, Lincoln's iTeam member, is a medic with a passion for jazz and cricket.
We'd love to hear from you, especially if you're a fresher coming up in October, when we will be around to help you settle in to college, link you up with a church, and introduce you to the CU. Feel free to e-mail us with any questions about being a Christian in Oxford, or college life in general. See below for information on what's on at Lincoln in freshers' week.
We currently meet at 5.30pm on Tuesdays and Fridays in the chapel to pray, and on Wednesdays of alternate weeks of term at 8pm for Bible study. We also go together to 'central meetings' and events run by OICCU, the university-wide Christian Union of which we are a part - see the rest of this site for details.
If you are interested in finding out more about the Christian faith, we will be running an 'Explore' course this term - a chance to discuss things in an informal way over coffee and something to eat. Please contact us for more information. We will also be taking part in Refresh, a 3-day series of events in the 5th week of Michaelmas run by the college Christian Unions of Turl Street, Oxford, offering people the chance to hear about Jesus, the man who claimed that he could give true refreshment.
Freshers' Week
Hopefully, someone from the CU will come and give you a goody bag of free stuff including food and a copy of Luke's gospel sometime during the week. You will also be able to find us at the college freshers' fair at Bartie's, and helping out with luggage on the Tuesday.
On Saturday, we will be putting on a free brunch in the JCR at 10.15am. A fourth-year will be speaking at this, looking at why Christianity is worth considering at university. You are welcome to join us to pray for this (and even help set out croissants) beforehand at 9.30am.
On Sunday, the chaplain will be putting on breakfast. Here, you will be able to meet Lincoln students who are part of the different local churches, including St. Ebbe's and St. Aldate's, and find out where and when to meet people from college who will also be going.
OICCU will also be putting on lots of exciting things. Go to the lodge 15 minutes beforehand to meet others who are going to these. In the meantime, why not get in touch with us so that we can keep you updated?
